How to tell................
How to tell if your horse is ill
Check there vital signs.Temperature, pulse and respiration.Check them a couple of times, then see if their ears are cold.If so consult a vet immediately. Whatever you do don't panic! If you horse is ill it may seem like the end of the world but its not, trust me. Everything has to end!
How to tell if your horse is lame
Your horse getting lame is okay, depending if how bad it is.First of all watch the horse as its standing still. If it is lame, and obviously resting and avoids placing weight on one leg, that will be the injured leg.

Your horse getting lame is okay, depending if how bad it is.First of all watch the horse as its standing still. If it is lame, and obviously resting and avoids placing weight on one leg, that will be the injured leg.
Watch the horse as it is ridden on a loose rein, or trotted in hand in a straight line on a looselead rope over firm, level ground. If the horse is lame on a front leg, the horse will dip its nose down. If the horse pops its head up slightly, the lameness is in the hindquarters or legs. If a horse is obviously lame on both front or rear legs, there will be no head bob. Their strides will be choppy and short.
